I might have mentioned before that I actually enjoy crafting (sewing, card making, generic kids’ crafts) and I am always looking for a way to apply that to my new motorcycling hobby. So, I expect to have a few blogs on motorcycle arts and crafts starting with the motorcycle birthday card I made for Jason last month.

Unique Cards

I really enjoy card making and papercrafting. It’s a fun hobby where I get to stamp, paint, buy and use designed paper, cut, and paste things (it is true, at least for me, that all I really need I learned in kindergarten).

And do I have a collection of supplies! When I started card making, I changed my focus from buying things at a craft store I would use one day, to actually using them (and buying more, let’s be real).

The Ride that Inspired the Card

I do sometimes use templates or get ideas from other card makers, especially when I am looking at a new set of stamps or die cuts. But for many of my cards, I think of the person for whom I’m making the card and what they like or an event.

For this birthday card, I was thinking of a particular ride that Jason and I took out to a friend’s gathering.

It was a very windy day. Gusts over 30 mph, even with bright blue skies and white poofy clouds.

When we were leaving, it looked like it might rain and the wind was picking up. Jason was leading and decided that because of the sideways wind gusts,  instead of making a left to head down a main road at 55 mph, we would head straight across and find another backroad to head towards home.

We ended up in a neighborhood that twisted and turned us around and wasn’t a straight shot to the next road. At some point, the clouds started moving fast and though there was a little adventure finding our way around and out of the neighborhood, it was still a scene I could appreciate.

The Card Materials

I decided that for this motorcycle card, I wanted a background that reminded me of that day. Fortunately, I had a stash of Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Paper (DSP) called “Everyday Skies” which included the perfect clouds and blue sky.  (Note: this is currently available as a last chance item on sale. If you are interested in buying products from Stampin’ Up!, I am also a demonstrator! Click here and shop with me: Blythe W.)

I also used a retired DSP called “Ready to Ride” and cut out a motorcyclist (You will see this paper again). I colored it in to give a little more contrast to the clouds and popped it up to give the whole look some dimension.

I also added some riding themed stamps I bought from a local craft fair (I did in fact ride my motorcycle to the craft fair. But I also had the benefit of my daughter driving behind me so we could go together and this allowed me to buy a few things that I wouldn’t normally be able to carry back with me on my bike).

Finally, for this motorcycle card I added some bling, a border, and used some of the blue clouded sky DSP on the inside (I like to decorate the inside of cards too).

Let me know what you think of my motorcycle card in the comments!
